St. Andrews's Church
St. Andrew's as you know stands at the western end of Dalton-
Seaham Hall
Now Seaham Hall Hotel, was once the home of Charles Stewart 3rd Marquess of Londonderry
and his wife Frances Anne Vane-
The marriage didn't last however and within a year they were separated. Charles Stewart went on to build the docks and the railway to ship out the coal from the mines he and his wife owned in the area.
The reverse reads :

Dear Mrs Robinson we were very disappointed at your daughter not coming on Monday let us know when she is coming & some of us can meet her tell her to get out at Seaton Station we now conclude with love from all to all we remain your loving friends J & T Ferguson.

Seaham Hall
Now Seaham Hall Hotel. Written below the picture is "These grounds run down to the sea"
The reverse reads :
"Seaham hall is not a very big house there are 89 rooms in it. But the grounds are too small for the size of the house. Seaham belongs to the Londonderys it is a colliery district one coal mine goes four miles under the sea. Lady Londonderry sent me to Seaham Hallfor a few days rest not long ago.
I wonder who wrote that? Not a very big house, 89 rooms!

She says in her email:
"The postcard of Seaham Hall was bought when my aunt worked there as a nurse and contracted TB herself and ended up as a patient."
Adam & Eve Garden
Used to stand down in the dene, behind where cliff House now stands, but a little further west. If you were to walk down the footpath now, from Tempest Road, you will come to a bridge. Cross the bridge and there is a flat grassed area. Its about there that the pub and gardens were.

I believe Dad told me it was the opening of the war memorial at New Seaham.

This postcard is described
as an edwardian beach scene,I think it must have been taken about the same time as
the War Memorial postcard as it is the same type of card.

This one was sent in by Lucy, a regular contributor. Unfortunately the scan Lucy sent was a bit small, but you can still see the “Shuggy Boats” as I believe they were called? Lucy says: “Loving the new format You are doing a grand job.Don't know if you have this postcard”.
