It was beautiful warm sunny Saturday, (about time too) when I set off to take some photo’s around the district. The first call was to see how the new school, just off Princess Road, is getting on.
The answer is very well by the look of things. Its going to be a great new addition to Seaham and a welcome addition to the education of the lucky kids who will attend.
From the school down to Princess Road, which has just bee re-
I headed south along Princess Rd. Past the junction with Parkside Cres. then turned right behind the Fir Station. From there you get a view of the allotments between Parkside and Dawdon.
I took some photo’s of the streets around the back of the Fire Station and the back
of the old Co-
From left to right they are : Hill St., James St and the fire station at the end,
The back of James St and the house of Princes road., James St looking the other way
to the back of the old Co-
Back onto Princess Road and the new houses on the Dowdon Working men’s club site, now called Eloise Close. They are not all occupied yet, in fact I’m not sure if they all finished, looking at this photo.
Looking along Queen Alexandra road from the top of “Boozy Alley”.
Then looking down “Boozy Alley” towards Fox Street, past Dawdon Crescent.
Further along Queen Alexandra Road I found Morelands was open for business. Good to see the old shop still going. How many times did my mam send me to Morelands for a quater of cooked ham and a loaf of bread?
Turning right at the corner shop that used to be “Carters” newsagents when I was a kid. I took photo’s of the streets as I went past. They are : The back of Margaret Street and Queen Alexandra Rd, Margaret Street, back of Margaret St and Chaplin St, Chaplin Street, back of Chaplin St and Shrewsbury St., Shrewsbury Street and finally Shrewsbury Street looking south.
I continued along Shrewsbury Street, to the top of Embleton Street, where some new houses are being built.
They are right next to the community Centre, on the site of the old Dawdon Junior School, which I attended.
From there I visited a friend of mine who has an allotment nearby.
The place was looking great and I came away with some wonderful very big goose eggs.
From there I went past St.Hild and St. Helens church and along Melbury Street.
Then along the “Green Drive Road” where I found a cricket match in progress.
From the welfare ground I went out onto the road that leads up from the the railway line, past where Edith and Helen Street used to stand, now the new business Park comes right down to there. There was a council man at the ‘gate’ there, talking pictures in an attempt to trace the scum, fly tipper who had dumped a load of rubbish there.
I went down to noses point to see how the work there was progressing.
And to finish off, as I often do, with a picture of the docks. The dredger in the harbour but not actually working. Perhaps waiting for low tide?
Work should be starting soon on the marina etc. Be assured I will be showing pictures.
